Fundraising ethics and accountability a FINZ imperative
Fundraising ethics and accountability lays the foundations to achieving excellence in fundraising. A FINZ membership represents your commitment to ethical best practices.
It could be said that those working in the community and charity sector are held to the highest level of trust. Serving our communities and realising the vision of our organisations is a responsibility that we take seriously along with operating ethically and with honour. The FINZ codes of ethics and standards are one of the commitments, members must abide by. Click here to read them.
On the weekend of 18 September, 2016, there was a published story about an elderly person with dementia who had become distressed because of the number and nature of solicitations for donations from charities. FINZ has spoken with the charities mentioned and it is clear that they had followed the correct procedure in removing the donor from their databases when requested to do so. It is timely that all members and professional fundraisers read the FINZ Standard of Direct Mail Fundraising Practice which states that fundraisers must at all times accept a request by a donor not to receive promotional materials. In other words provide an opportunity for donors to opt out of communications at any time.
Please read our media release issued on Sunday 18 September, in response to this situation..
