Economic pressures and a change of government in 1984 led to seismic changes in the banking industry and by May 19888, the ASB Community Trust began life as a separate entity from the commercial ASB Bank. A year later the ASB Charitable Trust was also formed for tax purposes. When community trusts were amalgamated and renamed ASB Community Trust.
