Giving Tuesday Attracts Record Donations

According to an interview with the campaign co-founder Henry Timms in US Today, this year’s #GivingTuesday initiative yielded record donations levels of around $168 million in charitable donations worldwide, beating last year's record by 44%.
Created by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, Giving Tuesday connects individuals, communities and organisations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
In addition to record donation levels, the campaign also saw volunteers across the globe pledge thousands of hours to good causes.
The day dedicated to philanthropy closely follows discount retail initiatives Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
This year’s Giving Tuesday campaign attracted participation from 98 nations, up from 71 in 2015. Newly participating nations included Switzerland, which - led by SwissFundraising attracted 75 partners and 51 campaigns within the country.
